The Cerrado is considered one of the world's biological "hotspots". Located between the Amazon, Atlantic Forests and Pantanal, the Cerrado is the largest savanna region in South America.
Is also the most biological rich savannah in the world, represents 30% of Brazil`s biodiversity; which means that it holds about 5% of the world`s biodiversity. There are also over 10,000 species of plants, almost half of which are found nowhere else in the world; 44% of the vascular plants are endemic.
The Cerrado has a high diversity of vertebrates; 150 amphibian species, 120 reptile species, 837 bird species, and 161 mammal species have been recorded.
In the vast Cerrado, some of the target species for ecotourists are Giant Anteaters; the Manned Wolfs ; Pumas; Red-legged Seriemas; Greater Rheas; Blue-winged Macaws; Red-and-green Macaws; Helmeted Manakins; Horned Sungems; Blue Finchs and Brazilian Merganers, amongst others.
Besides been the main link between the other 4 of Brazil`s biomes, Cerrado is also the cradle of Brazil`s fresh water resources.
6 of the 8 largest watersheds in Brazil depend on the Cerrado – including the waters that feed the Pantanal; also supplies 3 gigantic aquifers (one of which, the Guarani aquifer is the second largest [aquifer system] in the world!)
This unique biome is the second largest in South America. Once these wooded grasslands covered an area half the size of Europe. It still covers a quarter of Brazil`s national territory on an area of over two million square kilometers (roughly 10 times the size of Great Britain), across 11 States. Unfortunately, more than half of its original vegetation has been destroyed…
The Cerrado is one of the most threatened and over-exploited regions in Brazil, second only to the Atlantic Forests in vegetation loss and deforestation. The media coverage of the highlights and threats of the neighbouring Amazon Rainforest, overshadows the sad fact that native habitats and rich biodiversity of Cerrado are being destroyed much faster by non sustainable agribusiness… Only 20% of Cerrado still stands in good shape… One of every four species threatened in Brazil belong to Cerrado...
Despite its environmental importance, it is one of the least protected bioregions in Brazil, with less than 3% under legal protection. (Unlike the other biomes, the Cerrado was intentionally left out of the 1988 Brazilian Constitution, not recognized as a National Heritage Site…) Also it remains virtually unknown for the majority of the foreign ecotourists. We want to show you the Cerrado`s natural treasures.
Our tours explore several amazing bioregions of the Cerrado, but mainly we take our guests to enjoy the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park (located only 60 Km from our headquarters, in Cuiabá), an astonishing plateau with an abundance of gorges and waterfalls. Despite the proximity of the Pantanal, here we also can find many different species of birds.
We also frequently take our guests to snorkel in the crystal clear waters found around the quiet town of Bom Jardim, where you can also appreciate the Macaw`s Lagoon (mainly Blue-and-yellow Macaws and Red-bellied macaws roost there) ; swim in a bluish pool at the base of a beautiful waterfall (Serra Azul) and float on the river tubes through a cave ( Quebó Cave) .

Jaguar Wildlife Photo Expedition
10 Days / 9 Nights
DAY 1 - Transfer from Cuiabá to Pantanal lodge
Departure from Cuiabá, early in the morning, to the Pantanal. During the trip, we will pass through the city of Poconé, which is the gateway to the northern Pantanal. Immediately, we will drive down the fantastic Transpantaneira highway. We will make several stops for the observation and photography of the abundant wildlife.
Arriving at the chosen lodge, after lunch and check-in, we will take a boat trip (or horseback ride, if you prefer), exploring the surroundings of the lodge.
Dinner and overnight.
DAY 02 – Farm Lodge
Even before breakfast, we can have fun with the bird feeders and also with the only viewing tower devoted to an occupied nest of Jabiru storks. You can choose if you want to take a boat ride in the Morning time, or in the afternoon. The other outing is a walk in the forest. Some of our guest like to try Piranha fishing from the river banks; others enjoy the (small) swimming pool,… Around the lodge is also possible to take close-up photos of Capyvaras, Caimans, Crab-eating foxes, Marsh deers,… After dinner, we`ll walk back to the Ocelot viewing platforms, where we have great chances of seen that elusive feline.

DAY 3 – From the Lodge to Port Jofre
After an early breakfast, we`ll drive down the Transpantaneira highway till the end of the road, a place called Porto Jofre, where we will check in to a boat- hotel or land-based hotel, in the vicinity of the Meeting of the Waters State Park.
After lunch, we will go out on a boat in search of Jaguars and other wildlife, such as Giant River Otters, Capybaras, Caimans, Iguanas, and many species of birds.
The Pantanal is famous for its dramatic sunsets (blood-red and vanilla-golden skies) coveted by all photographers!

DAY 4 - Jaguar Expedition
Following the routine of this expedition, after breakfast, we will go on a boat trip. Most of the day will be spent exploring this remote region, which is great for wildlife and nature watching. After lunch, we will continue our search for the Jaguars and other wildlife, until sunset.

DAY 8 - Transfer from Porto Jofre to the Pouso Alegre lodge.
After breakfast, we will leave Port Jofre behind, heading on to a lodge half way along the Transpantaneira highway.
After checking-in and lunch, followed by siesta time in the comfort of your rooms (with air conditioning), we will go out looking for more animals in the biodiverse surroundings of the lodge. Keep your eyes open to see, Capuchin Monkeys, Coatis, Anteaters, Toucans, Tapirs, blue macaws, among other spectacular species.
Dinner will be followed by night safari.
(Please be forewarned that the Pouso Alegre Lodge is one of the few in Pantanal that does not have boat trips)
Overnight at the Pousada.
DAY 9 Farm Lodge Pouso Alegre
Breakfast, followed by an ecological outing hoping to encounter many species of wild animals. But the birds are always a highlight. We can also appreciate the peculiar Pantanal landscape, with its open and unspoiled horizons.
Return to the lodge for lunch and rest during the hottest period.
Soon after, we will drive around (it can also be a horseback ride, if you prefer) looking for Tapirs, Capybaras, Caimans, Black Howler Monkeys, Jabiru Storks, herons, Capuchin Monkeys, Coatis, Anteaters, Toucans, Tapirs, blue macaws, among other spectacular species.
Dinner followed by night safari.

DAY 10 - Pantanal => Cuiabá Transfer
Begin the day very early in time to watch the sunrise. There will be the opportunity to observe both nocturnal and diurnal animals. After breakfast, transfer to Cuiabá. Return to the hotel or airport, depending
